Nvidia Shield Gets 4K And HDR Features

1it enterpriseTargeting improved video streaming and gaming, Nvidia has rolled out a Shield TV console incorporating it with HDR and 4K capabilities. The Shield running on Android is also capable of being a voice assistant. It’ll get Google Assistant to TVs and work with Samsung’s SmartThings platform to function smart devices and appliances in a home.Nvidia is taking pre-orders on its website, and it will at first ship in the U.S., Canada, and some European countries. The Tegra X1 processor is powering the Shield. The Shield models will be available later this month. There are two variants, one is a 16 GB storage priced at $199.99 and another Pro model with a 500 GB of storage priced at $299.99. Both the models will be shipped with a remote and a controller.

 

With the ability to stream, games from cloud and cast games from PCs the Shield TV can also be a partly gaming console. In order to remain in competition with Microsoft’s latest Xbox One S and Sony’s PlayStation Pro gaming consoles, the addition of HDR and 4K features were necessary. Jen-Hsun Huang, Nvidia CEO said during a speech that the Shield TV would be the first to stream 4K HDR movies from Amazon and Netflix.
