BlackBerry want customers to purchase its devices this holiday season despite the company is stepping out of smartphone manufacturing business. BlackBerry that is in process of becoming a software company is offering up to 53 percent discount on its smartphones. The company has slashed the price of BlackBerry PRIV that was supposed to bring the luster back to the company and turns out to be a flop to $299 from $649. The DTEK50 handset is retailing for $229 (Originally $299) on the company’s website. Another model BlackBerry Passport is also retailing at a huge discount. The black color scheme is selling at $249 (originally $499) and the silver variant is selling at $299 (originally $549). The DTEK60 featuring 21 MP rear and 8 MP front camera, 5.5-inch screen and fingerprint sensor with BlackBerry Security is somehow missing from the lineup.
The DTEK60 is though getting high marks from some reviewers but the price is not discounted. The device retailing at $499 is said to be the best Android device in the price point. People are having atough time believing that it is a BlackBerry device. If the unit is not profitable then they will exit the market said John Chen CEO of BlackBerry.
