Airbnb this month asked users to pledge to treat everyone equally after getting some evidence and criticism that non-white guests were being discriminated. A lot have refused to do so. Airbnb users and hosts were presented with the so-called “community commitment” that ask them to pledge as simple as “to treat every person without judgment or bias and with respect regardless of religion, sex, gender identity, age, race, national origin, ethnicity, sexual orientation or disability. Declining to click the ‘accept button’ the person’s ability book or host was suspended and they were provided with an option to withdraw their account. Airbnb CEO Brian Cheskywas askedat an event held to introduction a new trip-booking service on Thursday regarding the number of users or hosts declined to which he replied, “I don’t even know the number off the top of my head, but it was a lot”.
Race played a part in the bookings being accepted or not,suggested narrations and studies from the company. The discrimination came equally from the smaller property owners as larger ones. In addition, frequently the hosts who have not once had an African-American renter earlier. The company has specially made a report on racism in response to the claims and studies.
