Samsung has proclaimed a fast Universal Flash storage (UFS) card. The card is based on UFS 1.0 Card Extension standard and is likely to replace the current SD card. It comes in 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB & 256 GB.
The UFS card can be used in the camera, mobile devices & even virtual reality headsets. The demand of high-capacity and faster in the current market can be taken care of with this card. The UFS card can beat the SD card in both writing and read speed hands down. When compared the UFS card can transfer data almost 5 times faster than a UHS-1 micro SD card with 530 Mbps read and 170 Mbps write speed. Cameras recording 4k videos are sometimes sloppy, well this card can fix that issue as well.
The card though needs a specific slot in devices. It is going to take a while for the companies
to incorporate this tech into devices. And chip makers have to design circuits in their controllers as well.
All this said the question still remains will be as successful as the pervasive micro SD cards. Samsung hasn’t announced any pricing or date of availability info of the UFS card.
