U.S. Justice Department met with State Attorneys to securing Consumer Privacy

United States Department of Justice conducted a listening session this week, along with the state attorneys general to securing consumer privacy as large techies amass vast troves of data. The session was led by Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions in which 13 states representatives and the District of Columbia were present.

The discussion was predicted to focus on IT giants such as Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc, Facebook, and Twitter Inc, which have been accused by some talks of seeking to exclude their ideas. Nebraska Attorney General, Doug Peterson expressed after the discussions that the talks between the federal and state law enforcers were at the beginning stage and had been triggered by an appearance on a collection of consumer data that was provided at the last meeting of the National Association of Attorneys General. Consumer data is an essential tool that giants utilize to decide what content to feature, where to place ads, and which customers would be interested in the product.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra has pointed out that he supposes a community of state attorney general to address the problem at a forthcoming meeting of the National Association of Attorneys General. The attended attorneys general said after the meeting that more of the talks centred on a collection of consumer data that can be addressed using antitrust law, however, came to no immediate conclusions.

President of the American Antitrust Institute, Diana Moss said that the simplest step would be for antitrust agencies to consider opposing mergers of businesses that merge large caches of consumer data if that data will advance market power.
