Packet Raised A $9.4 Million Funding Lead By SoftBank

1IT EnterpriseLed by Japanese telecommunication giant SoftBank Group the New York-based public cloud startup Packet claimed to have raised $9.4 million Series A funding. Along with that the company also announced a strategic partnership that will help Packet to bring its bare metal server automation technology to Japan. A fourth data center is also to be established by the company in Tokyo offering a connectivity to Australia and Asia including Japan and China. Along with the rest, three data centers in Amsterdam, New York, and Silicon Valley the extension to Japan will be a big step for the company.


Eric Gan, EVP head of Business Development at SoftBank said, they are looking forward to working together and extend their reach in Asia as the Packet’s team has captured the attention of a wide set of clients and partners in Europe and North America by developing a far-fetched solution.


The company was in 2014 offering public cloud style automation through bare metal servers. And the funding deal will help grow their engineering and network team and the result can be seen in their upcoming major products. Zachary Smith, Packet’s CEO said, SoftBank is a natural partner of their vision of automating fundamental infrastructure as they are a very forward looking investor in the world.
