Microsoft announced an upgrade for the office 2016 Mac application. Mac users specifically those who have registered for the Office Insider program and has ‘Insider Fast’ release channel selected can upgrade their office application to 64-bit.
The company has given a chance to move on to the 64-bit version of Office 2016 with an early release Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word. According to a report, the Mac Office team is working on the changeover and the full version of the Office 64-bit application will soon release.
Despite Apple’s early entreaty for the 64-bit office application, Microsoft has been on a hold. Since the OS X Lion release in 2011 Mac supports only 64-bit Intel processors, but there is a backward compatibility available.
The ability of 64-bit processors to work with much larger files is a relief for some users. The 32-bit Office have obstructed the use of large spreadsheets for example due to Mac limitations.
The instruction to sign up for the Windows insider program can be found on the Microsoft’s website. The process though requires a few changes in the Preference Panel of the Microsoft’s auto update app. The company has not yet announced the release date of the application yet.
