The Centers of Excellence is a top-level initiative which appeared early at managerial discussions at the White House. GSA announced this week that the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Department could be the second agency to work along with its Centers of Excellence.
The Centers of Excellence initiative introduced last year to assist produce a repetitive model of modernization and transformation that other agencies might learn from. The pilot agency, the Agriculture Department which is centred on five functional areas, infrastructure optimization, consumer experience, cloud adoption, service delivery analytics and contact centres. While Agriculture moves into its second phase end of this month, which is a longer-term execution model over the next few years, HUD will obtain its place at the beginning line.

The Housing and Urban Development Department officials state that Technology will have a major place all the way through the Modernization efforts while IT is a principal driver of Business Operations. HUD Secretary, Ben Carson expressed in a statement that the team up with the General Services Administration will allow the department to embark upon a operation to renovate the ageing Technology and provide accurate Accounting integrity to everything that HUD does. In the same line, HUD’s CIO, David Chow pointed out that working with GSA’s CoEs, department’s business requirements are the primary focus. Additionally, Chow explains, this beginning phase of the Center of Excellence initiative will be led by program expert officials along with full IT aid to streamline Business Process and advance overall experiences of taxpayers.

Similarly, Agriculture focuses on IT renovations with a business case to combine 39 Data centres into two for shifting workloads to the Cloud. The department also looked to enhancing customer-based products with AI and Automation in contact centres to Agriculture and introduces Farmer.gov, a customer portal for helping to schedule appointments and applications for loans.
