Facebook’s ‘360 Photo’: For the panorama experience

Facebooks 360 Photo For the panorama experienceFacebook’s has introduced ‘360 photo’ a new feature to its iOS and Android apps. The app will automatically convert panorama images taken with the camera and other photo apps into interactive images and users can view them by tilting their phones to landscape mode. These photos appear on your timeline with a compass icon on the right-hand side of the photo. Users can click and drag around to sightsee the photographs.

The interesting part is you don’t need a dedicated 360-degree camera for this. Images taken with Ricoh Theta S, 360-degree camera images taken with the Samsung Gear 360, panoramas taken with an iOS device, Giroptic 360 Cam, the Allie Camera, Google camera and a few more will be converted for now. Soon other camera apps will be added to this list. “Best part is you can take these pictures with your phone”, Mark Zuckerberg said.

“Previously uploaded panorama photographs will not be converted”, said Facebook. Even after the introduction of 360-degree video from selected partners like GoPro, National Geographic & Lucasfilm, and creating state-of-the-art 360-degree camera Facebook believes launching the 360-degree photo is a big step.

It’s a win-win situation for Facebook with the launch of the 360 Photo, users will spend more time on Facebook and advertisers will invest more money on the social media giant.
