Air Force plans to add Hyperspectral 3-D imaging Sensor to boost flexibility of Reconnaissance Aircraft

070301-F-9126Z-329WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB, Ohio –U.S. Air Force plans to demonstrate a new sensor suite that is powered up with multi-mode cameras with a laser-imaging system into a compact package, this technology worth $92 million is to be hired by Airforce in the next upcoming two months.

The Officials of the Airforce wants this new AgilePod sensor to be a small fitment inside modular sensor pod, where it can be either implemented to manned U-2S Dragon spy plane or RQ-4 Global Hawk Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.

Here AgilePod is a Lego-like system consisting of three to five sections having a different sensor at each node with hyperspectral imager system. Air Force officials expect all of these sensors to be fitted in the same space in accordance to weight limits of the standard MS-177 without consuming any additional power. It is very possible that the service could eventually plan to integrate a single AgilePod in various concepts of the complete package into multiple payloads.

The Air Force fixed a goal, not to exceed the entire electro-optical sensor in relation to size, weight, and power limitations of the MS-177. This new telescope is combined with high-altitude capabilities of the U-2S or the RQ-4 that adds aerial LADAR sensor to produce 3-D imaging of a target area.
